Future B. tripurae was recorded as B . cf. japonica Poppe & Richard, 1890 from India ( Kořínek 1971 ), and the author already stated that the male of this animal is markedly different from males of B. ( Bosmina ) longirostris and of B. ( Sinobosmina ) fatalis . Kořínek et al. (1999) described the adult male of this species and placed it in the subgenus Sinobosmina , based on the position of the lateral head pore, the structure of the male postabdomen, and the copulatory hook. But, according to our re-evaluation of the genus system, this species is a primitive member of the subgenus Bosmina s. str. , instead of B . ( Sinobosmina ) (Kotov et al. 2009).
