New material examined
BRAZIL
: 1-CPB-1 well, Carmópolis Municipality,
Sergipe State
(depth of
354.5 m
); 7-CP-252 well, Santo Amaro das Brotas Municipality,
Sergipe State
(depths of 478.45, 478.85, 481.6, 482.9 and
484.4 m
).
Measurements
Homeotype (LBP 9): carapace: length =
0.93 mm
, height =
0.76 mm
.
Remarks
The suprageneric taxonomy follows
Hou
et al.
(2002)
and the generic one follows
Do Carmo
et al.
(2013)
. However, although the specimens observed are very similar to
Harbinia
sinuata
(
Krömmelbein & Weber, 1971
)
, they differ in the shape of the dorsal anterior margin adjacent to the “hump” region, characteristic of the genus
Harbinia
Tsao, 1959. In the specimens of
Krömmelbein & Weber (1971)
and
Do Carmo
et al.
(2013)
, this area of the dorsal margin is flatter, which overall widens the anterior end. The present specimens seem to be similarly, although more discretely, ornamented as other
Harbinia
species (
Krömmelbein & Weber 1971
;
Hou 1984
;
Antonietto
et al.
2012
;
Do Carmo
et al.
2013
). For these reasons, the current specimens are identified dubiously as
Harbinia
sinuata
.
Paleoecology and distribution
Harbinia
sinuata
? is a freshwater to transitional species occurring in the following localities and stages: Bongor, Doba and Doseo Basins,
Chad
, upper Aptian (
Colin & Dépêche 1997
); and Riachuelo Formation, Sergipe-Alagoas Basin (
Krömmelbein & Weber 1971
),
Brazil
, upper Aptian,
Aracajuia benderi
zone (MSA-0),
Harbinia
sinuata
? subzone (MSA-0.1).
