Hist., ser. 6, 18:247 . TYPE LOCALITY: Indonesia , Sulawesi , NE Sulawesi , Minahassa, Rurukan . DISTRIBUTION: Sulawesi ; recorded only from the NE peninsula and central core ( Musser, 1990 ). COMMENTS: External, cranial, and dental features clearly distinguish Sulawesi species from those on Borneo and Palawan . Two species occur in C Sulawesi , one restricted to tropical lowland evergreen rain forest, the other (yet to be named and described) found only in montane rain forest ( Musser, 1990 ; Musser and Holden, 1991 ). Karyotype is primitive, spermatozoal morphology is distinctive ( Musser, 1990 ; Breed and Musser, 1991 ).
