Type species: Aleochara amplicollis Erichson, 1839 by monotypy. Abbreviated description: Length of adults 4.0–5.0 mm. Antenna with 11 antennomeres (?). Maxilla with length of lacinia shorter than galea; galea rounded apically, membranous in apical 1/3–1/2, densely covered with rows of short, fine hairs giving appearance of stubble; maxillary palpus with 4 articles and a well defined pseudosegment, articles 2 and 3 with numerous long setae, segment 1 with one long seta, segment 4 and pseudosegment without setae. Labium with ligula elongate, length as long as labial palpal articles 1 and 2, slightly broadened apically with forked apex, lacking setae or spines at apices of each fork; two medial setae of prementum present of moderate length, about 0.5 times length of ligula, insertion of setae almost adjacent; real pores and setal pores absent (?); hypoglossal lobes very long, almost reaching apex of ligula. Labial palpi elongate, overall length 8–10 times longer than greatest width, with 3 distinct articles and moderately defined pseudosegment (?). Pronotum distinctly transverse. Legs with tarsal formula 4-5-5. Abdomen fusiform, tapering apically to broadly pointed apex. Aedeagus with bulb of median lobe somewhat elongate, greater in length than tube; internal sac with numerous, small spinules, coiled flagellum present. Spermatheca more or less straight to gently curved with three primary divisions: basal bulb, simple and rounded at base; neck, slightly bent, at about 30∞ angle; and tube, more or less straight. Habitat: Klimaszewskii et al . (2000) reported that one specimen of P. amplicollis (Erichson) was swept from vegetation in November, while another was taken in December at 2000 m elevation. Unfortunately, no other habitat data is available. Comments: One species is included in this genus, P. amplicollis (Erichson) . I was unable to find specimens of P. amplicollis for examination. See the original description ( Bernhauer, 1901 ) and subsequent redescriptions ( Pace, 1999b ; Klimaszewski et al ., 2000 ) for descriptive details.
