Taxonomy.
The male
holotype
and female allotype are inaccessible (IFRI). However, Schedl provided a clear description of the species, and in addition, we have examined a drawing of the elytral declivity (NMW) made by Schedl from the
holotype
. The specimens from
Laos
and
Thailand
(see below) agree with both Beeson’s description and the drawing. The species is clearly related to
Platypus lewisi
and
P. psilacanthurus
. It has the characters of
Platypus
, not
Carchesiopygus
, and is here transferred to
Platypus
.
