Redescription. MALE. Head ( Fig. 63A ): Frontal triangle and vertex subopaque black, the former broadly divided transversely by yellowish-brown pollen. Face pale greyish-yellow, almost white pubescent and with a similar pile. Face with a broad, shining, brownish-black middle vitta and a submedial, incomplete vitta partly bisecting the facial pubescence. Face with four transverse grooves; the pile of frontal triangle and vertex black. Frontal triangle black, brownish pollinose, pile black. Gena bluish-black, antennae yellowish. Ocellar triangle black, with black pile. Occiput pile fine, short and yellow. Antennae yellowish, short, ratio 1.1:1.0:2.2, scape and pedicel little longer than basoflagellomere; darker toward the end and dorsal on basoflagellomere; arista yellow at base and dark on apical third, pilose. Thorax ( Figs 63B–C , 64D ): Aeneous, mesonotum shining bright brassy-black with obscure, brownish pollinose vittae; with a pair of moderately separated vitta of light brownish yellow pollen, yellow pilose. Pleura grey brownish to rusty-colored pollen, yellow pilose. Scutellum with a pair of slender, pale bristles; fringe short and yellow. Wing ( Fig. 63C ): Hyaline, slightly tinged with brown near the apex, stigma dark yellowish-brown; microtrichose, except cell c bare on basal 1/4, cell bm bare on basal 3/4 and cell r bare on basal 4/5, cell cua bare on anterior 1/3; calypter wholly white-yellowish; plumula white, halter yellow, capitulum slightly brown yellow. Legs ( Fig. 63C ): Everywhere light orange-brown; metafemur yellow except the apical 1/5 narrowly brown; basal three protarsus brown, the apical one yellow-orange; another tarsus yellow; yellow to orange pilose. Abdomen ( Figs 63B ): Elongate, 1 st tergum shining black, 2 nd shining blue-black with an obscure, diffuse, brownish-orange, elongate, sublateral maculae along the outer portion of tergum; widely separated and equidistant from base and apex of 2 nd tergum; on 3 rd tergum with quite similar, slightly smaller maculae that begin at the base; on 4 th tergum with smaller and similar basal maculae; sterna yellowish; male genitalia: surstylus in lateral view ( Fig. 64A ) with dorsal margin slightly concave and ventral margin slightly convex, shorter than broad; hypandrium in ventral view ( Fig. 64C ) narrowed laterally towards the apex; aedeagal lobe in ventral view ( Fig. 64C ) with apex acute. FEMALE ( Figs 63D–F ). Similar to male except for usual sexual dimorphism and differing in Frontal triangle with a broad, brownish pollinose crossband occupying the frontal depression; between this band and the ocelli a somewhat narrow.Abdomen with a broad lateral macula, reaching 1/4 of segment length; on 3 rd to 4 th terga, there are a pair of lineal maculae, apically rounded and separated for the edge, reaching the anterior 2/3 of the segment length. Taxonomic notes. Argentinomyia pollinosa is similar in appearance to A. maculata differing from them by the female frontal triangle with a complete transverse black fascia ( Figs 63D, F ); metafemora yellow except the apical 1/5 narrowly brown; metatibiae yellow on basal 1/4 ( Figs 63A, C, D, F ); 3 rd to 4 th terga with quadrate maculae ( Figs 63B, E ). In A. maculata the female frontal triangle with two rounded brown pollinose maculae ( Figs 49D, F ); metafemora yellow with a black ring or smudge on apical margin; metatibiae mostly yellow ( Figs 49A, C, D, F ); 3 rd to 4 th terga with triangular maculae ( Figs 49B, E ) (see “diagnosis” under each species or key). Geographical range. Argentinomyia pollinosa (n= 37) is known from Argentina (Tucumán) in Serra do Mar , Serra da Fartura and Serra de Mantiqueira in Brazil (Minas Gerais, Paraná: Ponta Grossa, Guarapuava, Refugio de Vida Silvestre dos Campos de Palmas , S „o José dos Pinhais ; Santa Catarina, S„o Paulo) and Eastern slope of Cordillera de Mérida in Venezuela * ( Aragua ) ( Fig. 93B ).
