Diagnosis.
Small (8-11 mm) dark species with narrow abdomen, oral margin notched, evident, basoflagellomere small, 1-1.1 times as long as broad, legs dark. Terga mostly black, terga 2-4 with or without only a trace of transverse pair of microtrichose fasciae. Males: eye contiguity 8-10 facets long. Male genitalia with smooth thecal ridge, posterior surstyle lobe very narrow in apical half with parallel margins (Fig. 9). Similar to
M. neolydicus
nom. n., from which it differs by its smaller size (10-13 mm in
M. neolydicus
nom. n.), the shape of the male genitalia (Figs 1, 9), and its distribution (
M. cabanerensis
is found in the Western Mediterranean and
M. neolydicus
nom. n. occurs in the Eastern Mediterranean).
