Antiopa [ Antiopa ] Meigen, 1800: 32 . CURRENT STATUS: Unavailable name; work suppressed for the purposes of zoological nomenclature by action of I.C.Z.N. (1963: 339 [Opinion 678]); treated under Chrysotoxum Meigen, 1803 [ teste Sabrosky (1999: 44) ]. Antiopa Meigen in Hendel , 1908 : 61 . ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: None. FIRST INCLUDED SPECIES: Musca bicincta Linnaeus, 1758 (in Coquillett 1910a: 508 ). TYPE SPECIES: Musca bicincta Linnaeus, 1758 by subsequent designation ( Coquillett 1910a: 508 ). CURRENT STATUS: Preoccupied by Antiopa Alder & Hancock, 1848 ; Antiopa Stål, 1862 ; junior synonym of Chrysotoxum Meigen, 1803 . New Synonymy . FAMILY: SYRPHIDAE . REMARKS: Antiopa was originally proposed by Meigen without included species and later made unavailable by the suppression of the entire work for the purposes of zoological nomenclature by action of the I.C.Z.N. (1963: 339 [Opinion 678]). Hoyle (1902: 214) treated the name as a senior homonym of Antiopa Alder & Hancock, 1848 , but did not treat it as valid, thus it was still unavailable in that work. The name was first made available by Meigen in Hendel (1908: 61) , where it was treated as valid and listed as a senior synonym of Chrysotoxum Meigen, 1803 ; however no species were included in the genus in this work. The first included species we could find is Musca bicincta Linnaeus, 1758 in Coquillett (1910a: 508) , which is thus the type species by subsequent designation. Musca bicincta Linnaeus, 1758 is currently treated in Chrysotoxum Meigen, 1803 [ teste Sabrosky (1999: 44) ], which makes Antiopa Meigen in Hendel, 1908 a junior synonym of Chrysotoxum Meigen, 1803 , n. syn .
