REMARKS:
Tubifera
was originally proposed by
Meigen (1800: 34)
without included species and later made unavailable by the suppression of the entire work for the purposes of zoological nomenclature by action of the I.C.Z.N. (1963: 339 [Opinion 678]).
Hendel (1908: 62)
was the first after
Meigen (1800)
to give characters to differentiate the taxon (reproducing Meigen’s characters) and to treat
Tubifera
as valid, which makes the name available from that work with Meigen as author.
Hendel (1908)
included three nominal species:
Musca tenax
Linnaeus, 1758
[as “
S. tenax
... Fab.”],
Musca nemorum
Linnaeus, 1758
[as “
S.
…
nemorum
... Fab.”],
Musca florea
Linnaeus, 1758
[as “
S.
…
floreus ...
Fab.”], and
Musca pendula
Linnaeus, 1758
[as “
S.
…
pendulus
Fab.”].
Coquillett (1910a: 617)
designated
Musca tenax
Linnaeus, 1758
, which is the
type
species by subsequent designation.
Musca tenax
Linnaeus, 1758
is currently treated in
Eristalis
Latreille, 1804
[
teste
Peck (1988: 184)
], which makes
Tubifera
Meigen
in
Hendel, 1908 a
junior synonym of
Eristalis
Latreille, 1804
