Diagnosis.
The new species can be distinguished from its allies by the broad dark fuscous band on dorsum. The male genitalia are characterized by the spatulate distal part of the valva and the round anellus lobe with a slender apical bristle. Also, the aedeagus bearing 5−7 teeth is a distinctive character for the species. In the female genitalia, the large and U-shaped ostium bursae, the broad ductus bursae with a slender basal sclerite and colliculum and the subtriangular signum are diagnostic.
Description.
Adult (
Fig. 7H
). Wingspan 7.0−
7.5 mm
. Head cream, usually suffused with light ochre anteriorly, sometimes tinged with fuscous. Labial palpus light ochre, segment II sprinkled with fuscous; segment III slightly shorter than II, strongly suffused with fuscous. Antenna with scape cream; flagellum dark fuscous except base of dorsal surface cream, male cilia as long as diameter. Thorax cream. Tegula cream except anterior margin dark fuscous. Forewing cream, anterior edge of costa black; apical spot elliptical; markings dark fuscous: an oblique costal streak from distal 1/3 toward apical spot; beyond this, a triangular costal patch before apical spot, sometimes interrupted by creamy scales medially; a broad, darker band running from near base toward apex along dorsum, interrupted by cream at fold, leaving a very large irregular spot on tornus; two slender, oblique spots arising from anterior and lateral margins of former spot, both converging distad and confluent with costal streak and costal patch; costal fringe cream with subterminal and terminal fuscous bands; fringe on termen creamy white, distal half with subterminal and terminal fuscous bands; fringe on dorsum cream and light grey mixed. Hindwing fuscous, fringe grey. Legs light ochre; fore coxa suffused with fuscous posteriorly; fore femur, tibia and tarsus dark fuscous on outer surface; mid and hind tibiae strongly sprinkled with fuscous; mid and hind tarsi with first tarsomere dark fuscous at base and beyond middle, remaining tarsomeres dark fuscous except apex.
Male sternum VIII
(
Fig. 23O
). 1/10 length of abdomen, gradually narrowing from base to blunt posterior apex.
Male genitalia
(
Fig. 31C
). Uncus tongue-shaped, sparsely setose laterally. Gnathos hook moderately long, simple. Tegumen approximately 5 times as long as uncus, anterior margin deeply concave. Valva slightly curved inward, uniformly elongate from base to distal 1/3, then markedly broadened; distal 1/3 spatulate, setose, rounded at apex. Anellus lobe round, 1/5 length of valva; apical bristle as long as anellus lobe, shortly hooked apically. Juxta with a hummock-like process, its distal half sparsely setose. Vinculum slender, nearly straight posteriorly. Saccus broad, subtriangular with lateral margins slightly convex, exceeding tegumen pedunculus. Aedeagus with basal 1/3 slightly dilated, then narrowing toward blunt apex; before apex with a row of 5−7 short teeth.
Female genitalia
(
Fig. 48F
). Papillae anales moderately sclerotized. Apophyses anteriores slightly shorter than apophyses posteriores. Tergum VIII short, deeply concave posteriorly. Sternum VIII broadly concave posteriorly, strongly produced anteriorly in V-shape, with a strong sclerotization along anterior margin. Ostium bursae U-shape. Ductus bursae uniformly elongate, base with a slender, clubbed sclerite; colliculum at posterior 1/3, ductus seminalis arising from posterior 2/5. Corpus bursae ovate, slightly shorter than ductus bursae; signum situated at middle of corpus bursae, large, subtriangular, its posterior margin slightly convex medially, lateral margins serrate.
Distribution.
China
(
Hainan
).
Etymology.
The species name is derived from Latin,
umbrosus
(shady) and
dorsum
(dorsum), referring to the dark fuscous dorsum of the forewing.
