PHOENICOCOCCIDAE
Stickney 1934
Type
species:
Phoenicococcus marlatti
Cockerell
by monotypy and original designation.
Introduction.
This small family includes just the single species,
Phoenicococcus marlatti
Cockerell
which feeds on date palms. Its relationships are uncertain but it is currently generally accepted that it is either close to the
Diaspididae
, as found by
Vea and Grimaldi (2016)
, or actually a member of this family. The adult males were studied by
Stickney (1934)
and are apterous (
Fig. 57
).
