Type locality: “Moka road (3.38844º, 8.65878º, 1296 m ), Bioko Island , Equatorial Guinea ”. Distribution . Endemic to Bioko. Comments. This species is currently known from two female specimens. The first one was reported from Moka (3.35081º, 8.66254º) by Capocaccia (1961a) as Atheris squamigera (Hallowell, 1854) , but highlighting its singular morphological traits; this specimen represents the species’ paratype . The second one was recently reported and designated as the holotype of A. hetfieldi ( Ceríaco et al. 2020a ) ( Map 37C ). Specimens examined. No specimen of this taxon was found in the examined collections.
