Redescription (Fig. 4 ). Male. Unknown. Female. Body length 4.5mm . Arista densely plumose basally. Setae brown. Ocellar seta well-developed. Presutural intra-alar seta absent. Two dorsocentral setae. Acrostichal seta absent. One lateral scutellar seta. Head mostly yellow with thin dorsal stripe on first flagellomere, ocellar tubercle brown, and gena and parafacial white; gena silvery-tomentose. Thorax yellow with lateral 1 / 3 of scutum brown on posterior half, and anterolateral corner of scutellum and metanotum brown. Legs yellow with coxae light yellow and fore tibiae and tarsi light brown to brown. Halter entirely white. Wing lightly clouded (darker on distal 1 / 3 towards apex and in first radial cell). M 1 + 2 ratio 4.4 . Abdomen yellow with tergites 1–5 brown and cerci light brown. Variation. Female from Tanzania agrees with the holotype except as follows, and may not be conspecific: body length 4.3mm ; gena and occiput pilose; postsutural stripes reaching midpoint of presutural scutum; dorsal half of first flagellomere (excluding inner face) infuscated; wing clear; M 1 + 2 ratio 3.8 . Stuckenberg ( 1973 ) noted than the type locality is “adjacent to the border with Malawi and the species is likely to occur in montane forest in that territory”.
