Centris lilacina
Cockerell, 1919: 191
, 192.
Diagnosis.
Female: Metasoma ferruginous with purple or violaceous metallic reflections (Fig. 4); mesoscutum, mesoscutellum, pronotal lobe, tegula and area below wings with light yellow hairs with dark brown apices (
Figs. 3
, 4); scape with yellow spot on anterior surface (
Fig. 3
); space between second and third mandibular teeth equal to that between third and fourth teeth.
Morphology. Female.
(
Figs. 3
, 4).
Measurements:
body length: 21.5: head width: 6.7; thorax width: 8.8; forewing length: 16.5; UID: 2.7; LID: 2.9; mandible length: 2.6; mandible basal width: 1.2; labrum length: 0.8; labrum width: 1.8; F1 length: 1.4; F2 length: 0.3; F3 length: 0.5; scape length: 0.8; diameter of median ocellus: 0.5; distance between lateral ocellus and eye: 0.6.
Coloration:
Head and mesosoma with dark brown to black integument, except yellow on labrum, clypeus with irregular spot laterally, lower paraocular area with spot extending upwards to level of antennal sockets, apex of mandible (in some specimens), and anterior surface of scape (
Fig. 3
). Mesepisternum with metallic bluish and greenish reflections. Terga mainly light brown to ferruginous. Sterna light brown. Legs dark brown, lighter on hind legs. Wing membranes and veins dark brown with purple or violaceous iridescence.
Sculpture:
Clypeus with integument shiny and finely areolate, except on disc. Punctures relatively coarse, not dense, scattered on disc. Labrum with coarse, very dense punctures, except on upper margin with smooth surface. T1 with fine punctures on disc, slightly coarser and denser laterally. T2 and T3 with very fine, dense punctures. T3 with some coarse, very sparse punctures on disc, punctures denser on T4 and T5. Protuberances of mesoscutellum areolate, with some coarse, sparse punctures.
Pubescence:
Labrum with yellow, short, plumose hairs mixed with some light brown, simple pubescence. Supralateral margins of clypeus with yellowish brown, long, simple hairs. Supraclypeal and genal areas with yellowish pubescence, brown on frons and vertex (
Figs. 3
, 4). Mesoscutum, mesoscutellum, pronotal lobe, tegula and area below wings with light yellow hairs with dark brown apices (Fig. 4). Mesepisternum mainly with brown and light yellow hairs (Fig. 4). Fore and middle legs mainly with dark brown pubescence (
Figs. 3
, 4), lighther on fore femur. Scopa yellow (Fig. 4) with reddish brown hairs on ventral surfaces of hind tibia and basitarsus. T1 with plumose brown hairs laterally. T2 and T3 with brown, short, simple pubescence. T4 with similar hairs, longer than on T3. T5 with yellow hairs. T3–T5 with some long, simple, sparse hairs mixed with shorter hairs. Prepygidial fimbria with brown, plumose, very dense hairs. Pygidial fimbria with light brown, coarse, simple hairs.
Structures:
Mandible strongly curved apically with four teeth of acute apex (length: 1st>3rd>2nd≥4th) (
Fig. 3
). Second tooth closer to rutellum than to third tooth. Trimal angle slightly acute. Acetabular carina reaching base of third tooth. Clypeus with upper half convex, lower half concave (lateral view). Labrum elliptical. Vertex above upper interocular tangent. Inner orbits of compound eyes slightly converging dorsally (
Fig. 3
). Fore elaiospathe with secondary anterior comb formed by four giant, long, apically curved hairs. Mesoscutellum with two projections of acute apex posteriorly directed. Basitibial plates lanceolate, secondary plate projected backwards, with posterior edge emarginated beyond posterior margin of primary plate. Pygidial plates with acute apices, primary plate with lateral margin sinuous.
