Diagnosis :—Valves generally lanceolate. Ocellulimbi deeply sunken and frequently tall; each vertical row usually with 5 or more pores. Bilayered construction, with the internal membrane complete except for a row of pores at the face-mantle junction, one pore between each pair of virgae. External pores formed into biseriate striae, when resolved, by vimines from each pair of virgae. Virgae densely packed. Internal coverings of the rimoportulae symmetric. One rimoportula at each pole. Type species: Stricosus alfageehii Sabir and Theriot Etymology: —The name “ Stricosus ”, meaning featureless, refers to the simple nature of the valve in the light microscope, where only the sternum and outline are easily resolved, and to the general lack of defining characters visible in the light microscope.
