Diagnosis:
This species can be distinguished from all other species of
Amputoearinus
by the following characters; forewing yellow with infuscate band apically; margin between metepimeron and metepisternum with transverse carinae; carina bordering subpronope posteriorly, extending to anterior margin of pronotum.

body yellow except melanic as follows: head, antenna, propleuron, forecoxa, forefemur, foretibia, foretarsus, midcoxa distally, midfemur distally, midtibia, midtarsus, hind coxa anterodistally, hind trochanter, hind tibia with patch distally, hind tarsus; forewing yellow with infuscate band apically (cf.

f).
Head:
antenna with 43 (40–44) flagellomeres.
Mesosoma:
scutellar sulcus lacking longitudinal carina (cf.

d); projection of propleuron blunt and lacking ridges (cf.

f); median areola of mesosoma slightly depressed medially with sharp carinae laterally and posteriorly (cf.

c); propodeal sculpture reduced to small protuberance anteromedially (cf.

from Province Puntarenas differs as follows: body orange except for melanic as follows: antenna, black patch posterior to eye, foretibia, forefemur apically, midtibia, midfemur apically, hind trochanter, hind tibia apically, hind tarsus; mesopleural suture with strong transverse carinae ventrally, one strong carina medially, weak carinae dorsally.

from the Latin
variegatus
meaning of different sorts, due to the color variation of this species.
