New record from Madang and New Guinea , based on a specimen collected by W.-J. Chen, St. CP-3961. This species is placed in the genus Sphenanthias according to Liao et al. (2009 : 521). DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Philippines north to southern Japan , south to New Guinea . Benthopelagic, on the lower continental shelf, 150– 200 m . Marine.
