The original description of this species was based on one female and one male, however, the male specimen is missing. Therefore, Townes et al. (1965) Figure 40. Holotype male of Ichneumon diversipes Walker, 1874 (= Listrognathus ( Listrognathus ) punctator ( Smith, 1874 )) : (a) labels (b) lateral habitus (c) head, frontal view (d) head, dorsal view (e) head, lateral view (f) mesoscutum and scutellum, dorsal view (g) propodeum, dorsolateral view (h) mesosoma, lateral view (i) wings (j) metasoma, dorsal view. designated the lectotype female. Morley (1913b) suggested I. insolitus is Cratichneumon annulator ( Fabricius, 1793 ) or a closely related species. Heinrich (1937) them formally transferred I. insolitus to Cratichneumon . Current taxonomy. Cratichneumon insolitus ( Walker, 1874 ) ( Ichneumonidae : Ichneumoninae : Ichneumonini ). Figure 41. Lectotype female of Ichneumon insolitus Walker, 1874 (= Cratichneumon insolitus ( Walker, 1874 )) : (a) labels (b) lateral habitus (c) head, anterolateral view (d) head, dorsolateral view (e) head, lateral view (f) mesoscutum and scutellum, dorsal view (g) propodeum, dorsal view (h) mesosoma, lateral view (i) metasoma, dorsal view. Type number. Type 3b.208. Specimen # NHMUK010634910 Type status. Lectotype , designated by Townes et al. (1965) . Sex. Female. Type locality. Japan . Label data. First label, ‘Type’ (round label, with red margin; printed); second label, ‘B.M. TYPE /HYM./3.b.208’ (square label; first and second lines printed and third line handwriting); third label, ‘ Japan ./Coll.F. Walker./ 1913–71 .’ (square label; printed); fourth label, ‘ Ichneumon /insolitus’ (square label; handwriting); fifth label, ‘262’ (square label; handwriting); sixth label, ‘B.M. TYPE /HYM./ Ichneumon / insolitus/ Walker 1874 ’ (square label; first and second lines printed and third to fifth lines handwriting); seventh label, ‘ Cratichneumon /annulator, fab./ab. /Morley det. Xii. 13’ (square label; ‘Morley det.’ printed and the remaining characters handwriting). Condition. Not bad; the right antenna is missing after the 12th flagellomere and left antenna after the 10th, but a single apical flagellomere is glued to card; the face, left eye, antenna, wings, left side of the mesosoma and wings are covered in glue; the fifth tarsomeres of both hind legs are detached, but a single fifth tarsomere is attached to the remaining right hind tarsus. Remarks. Described from both sexes, only the lectotype female is present in NHMUK.
