Type species: Carrerapyrgota miliaria Aczél, 1956 , original designation. Anapyrgota Steyskal, 1967 : 2 . Type species: Apyrgota personata Lutz & Lima, 1918 , original designation. Diagnosis: Carrerapyrgota can be distinguished from the other Neotropical Pyrgotini by the following combination of morphological features: lateroclinate postocellar seta and inclinate medial vertical seta crossed; antennal groove without median carina; 1 notopleural seta; postscutellum absent; female forefemur with an area with thin bare cuticle on posterior surface; C with subcostal break; Sc not completely reaching C; R2+3 with an apical spur vein; lower calypter covered by one longitudinal row of hairs. Redescription: Head: medial vertical seta inclinate; lateral vertical seta lateroclinate; ocellar seta absent; orbital seta convergent; lateroclinate postocellar seta and inclinate medial vertical seta crossed; antennal groove without median carina; subocular spot dark brown. Thorax: 1 dorsocentral seta; 1 notopleural seta; 1 intra-alar seta; 1 supra-alar seta; 1 postalar seta; acrostichal seta absent. Legs: hindtibia with dorsal concavity on basal third. Wing: C with subcostal break; Sc not completely reaching C; R2+3 with an apical spur vein; R4+5 bare; CuA2 pointed at base of A1+CuA2; lower calypter ciliated. Male abdomen: epandrium saddle-shaped, wider than high; lateral surstylus covered by short setulae; medial surstylus bar-like; hypandrium narrow, bare; phallapodeme narrow, vanes separated; ejaculatory apodeme fan-shaped, longer than wide; phallus with paired symmetrical sclerites of acrophallus. Female abdomen: oviscape shiny, ventrolaterally covered by long black setae, without apicoventral hook; apicoventral region with a bare depressed area (“fóvea ventral préapical” sensu Bernardi (1990)) of various, species-specific shape, laterally bordered by pair of narrow sclerites bearing setae; eversible membrane with a pair of ventrolateral taenia-like stripes covered by sensilla; oviscape aperture with row of fine setae along lateral margins; apico-dorsal margin of oviscape with unpaired sclerotized plate covered by trichoid sensilla; aculeus basally widened, with two central sclerotized arms on ventral surface, apical part tapering and long.
