Color in life red to dark red; body narrowly to broadly oval, legs shorter than the body length; chelicerae hinged at base. Palptibial claw subequal to or slightly shorter than palptarsus; accessory claw seta or spine like; terminal eupathidia on palptarsus basally fused and split into 3 long prongs or simple; Subcapitulum with 2 pairs of subcapitular setae m and n , 2 pairs of adoral setae ( or1,2 ), seta m anterolaterad of pharynx; dorsum covered with smooth, polygonal or reticulated shields; prodorsum with a median prodorasal shield typically large, bearing 3 pairs of setae ( vi , ve, sc1 ) and a pair of lateral platelets which bears setae sce ; eyes present or absent, with or without post ocular bodies ( pob ). Dorsal hysterosomal area C–F typically with 1–2 shields surrounded by 3–5 pairs of platelets, median shield with 2–3 pairs of setae; setae d1 and d2 never on same shield; humeral shields large or small, dorso or ventrolateral, bearing setae c2 ; intercalary shields (F) obvious, entire or divided along midline, with a pair of setae ( f1 ). Suranal shield (H) entire or divided medially, with two or three pairs of setae ( h1 , h2 , h3 ), seta h 3 may be absent or present; median zonal shield may be fused with central shield or separate bearing seta e1 ; lateral zonal shields usually separated and with seta e2 ; Endopodal shields smooth or reticulate; coxae I–II and III– IV surrounded by fused or separate endopodal shields. Leg tarsal claws robust. Intercoxal area with setae 1a , 3a and 4a ; opisthosomal venter with 3–4 pairs of aggenital setae ag1-3 , 4 anogenital area with 1–3 pairs of genital setae ( g1-3 ) and 3 pairs pseudanal setae ( ps1-3 ). Setal formulae of leg segments as follows: coxae 2, 2, 2, 1/2; trochanters 1, 1, 1/2, 1; femora 4, 4, 3, 2/3; genua 3/4/5+1ĸ, 3/4+0/1ĸ, 1/2/3, 1/2/3; tibiae 5+1φ/2φp, 5+1φp, 5+1φp, 5+1φp; tarsi 12/13/14 +1ω, 6/ 8/9/10 +1ω, 6/7/8+1ω, 6/7/8+1ω ( Summers, 1962 ; Khanjani & Ueckermann, 2002 ).
