Remarks. –
This species is easily differentiated from other species of
Hypocolpus
by its densely setose carapace and the morphology of the subhepatic cavity, which is divided by two subparallel crests. All the adult specimens were collected in tangle nets. This species was first described from Aldabra Island in the Indian Ocean (
Rathbun, 1894
), and has also been reported from nearby
Madagascar
(Guinot- Dumortier, 1960;
Serène, 1984
). In the western Pacific, it has been found in Amami-Oshima in southern
Japan
(
Takeda, 1972
) and
Taiwan
(
Ho et al., 2000
). This is the first record of
Hypocolpus abbotti
in the
Philippines
.
