Allocapnia vivipara
(Claassen)
has been most commonly collected in the Lake Erie tributaries in northwestern PA, but has also occasionally been found in the lower Allegheny River and lower
Delaware
River basins (
Masteller 1996
).
Allocapnia vivipara
is the most common
Allocapnia
species
in
Illinois
, where it lives in a variety of streams, from small pristine creeks to large clay bottomed rivers and streams with livestock waste (
Webb 2002
). The
Pennsylvania
records also indicate a tolerance to a variety of pollution sources including urban and agricultural runoff, alkaline coal mine drainage, and leaky septic systems.
