Range:— Lowlands of the Amazonian forests in French Guiana, Guyana , Venezuela , Colombia , northern Brazil , Ecuador , Peru , and Bolivia (CO); also reported from Panama and Costa Rica ( Moran 1995 ), and likely to be found in Suriname . Ecology:— Common; erect terrestrial, in humid forests, especially in disturbed areas, along edges, and in secondary forests; 200–500 m , 0–700 m elsewhere. Notes:— Hypolepis hostilis is characterized by spinulose petioles and rachises, petioles black at bases (stramineous distally), costules and veins with glandular hairs, and glabrous laminar tissue between the veins.
