Remarks
This species has not been molecularly examined. Its radular tooth morphology suggests a relationship to the species
A. calhetae
or
A. galeao
, but its distinctly elongated shell shape readily separates it from the latter two. Initially described from the area of
Praia
Santana, to the northwest of
Maio
, a population recently introduced as
A. gonsalensis
from
Praia
Gonçalo, to the northeast of the island, has an almost identical shell morphology and is therefore considered conspecific. The description of
A. santanaensis
was published in
April 2014
, and the taxon
A. gonsalensis
appeared in
July 2014
. Hence,
A. gonsalensis
becomes a junior synonym for
A. santanaensis
.
