Type material.
Lectotype
(present designation), female, “
Cyphon
\ maculicorne \ Sol.
Chili
” [handwritten with brown ink, probably by Solier]; “9 \ 45: [handwritten on a green, round label].
The
specimen is relatively well pre- served (TL =
4.2 mm
).
Remarks.
According to the structure of the female genitalia (
Fig. 6
)
C. maculicornis
is a junior synonym of
Pseudomicrocara patagonica
(Curtis)
. For descriptions and illustrations of morphological characters, including male genitalia, see
Libonatti & Ruta (2013)
. It is clear that Solier studied more than a single specimen of this species as ranges of measurements were noted in the original description (
Solier 1849
), therefore a
lectotype
is designated in order to preserve the stability of nomenclature by selecting one specimen as the sole, name-bearing type of the taxon.
