Bibliographic sources: The original description recorded the species occurring in Brazil , Colombia , Ecuador , French Guiana and Panama ( Sirivanakarn & Galindo, 1980 ). Taxonomic contributions registered in Pecor et al. (1992) , and Sallum & Forattini (1996) . This species was included in the taxonomic revision of the Spissipes Section by Sallum & Forattini (1996) . Additional comments: The species has been reported as a natural enzootic vector (most likely a secondary vector) of Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus (subtype ID) in Colombia ( Ferro et al. 2003 ).
