Remarks.
Breuning (1940a)
described
B. strandi
based on a single specimen from
Argentina
(
Formosa
). According to him, it is similar to
B. buquetii
, but differs by the elytral apex lacking the dark apical macula, covered by a very large preapical pale yellow pubescent macula, and the antennae unicolorous, not annulated. However, the dark apical macula is present, although there is lighter pubescence interspersed. Comparing the original description of this species with that of
B. roseiceps
Breuning, 1939
as well as photographs of the
holotypes
, apparently, they belong to the same species. Both have the antennae with the same pubescent pattern, and the elytral apex with a very similar pubescent pattern. The geographical distribution of both species also suggests that they are a single species.
Breuning (1939)
reported that the
holotype
of
Bisaltes
(
B.
)
roseiceps
was from
Brazil
(
Bahia
). However, he had at least
one male
and
one female
in the original description (translated): “Close to
Buqueti
Thoms. (=
Batesi
Auriv.), but: smaller and narrower, the antennae a little longer (male) or a little shorter (female) than the body ...” According to
Breuning (1971a)
, the species occurs in
Brazil
(
Bahia
,
Pernambuco
,
Goiás
,
Minas Gerais
,
Rio de Janeiro
) and
Paraguay
(a country adjacent to the Argentinean province of
Formosa
). For now, we prefer to not formalize the synonymy. This decision was made because the pubescence on the basal half of the elytra was partially rubbed in the
holotype
of
B.
(
B.
)
roseiceps
, and does not allow us to be sure if the dark longitudinal pubescent area along suture is present. It is also very probable that
Ataxia parva
Galileo & Martins, 2011
is a synonym of
B.
(
B.
)
roseiceps
(see photographs on
Bezark 2022a
).
