Amblyomma humerale Koch, 1844a . A Neotropical species whose adults are usually found on Testudines : Testudinidae ; adults and nymphs have been found on Testudines : Testudinidae , and Crocodilia: Crocodylidae ; nymphs and the undescribed larva have been collected from Didelphimorphia : Didelphidae , and Passeriformes (several families); and nymphs alone have been recovered from Squamata (several families), less often from Mammalia (several orders) (Guglielmone et al . 2014, Soares et al. 2015 , Witter et al. 2016 , Gianizella et al. 2018 b , Lima et al. 2018, Binetruy et al. 2019 ). Binetruy et al. (2019) found larvae of Amblyomma humerale causing human parasitism, a diagnosis based on molecular methods. Guglielmone et al. (2003) strongly share this view but provisionally treat all three species as valid. It should be noted that Santos Dias (1958a) treated Amblyomma crassum and Amblyomma sabanerae as synonyms of Amblyomma humerale , but later Santos Dias (1989b) recognized Amblyomma sabanerae as a valid species.
