Recorded in the states of Piauí and Bahia. It can be found on low and high altitudes (sea level to
830 m
elevation). It is widespread in the Cerrado, Pampas, and Pantanal (
Marques
et al.
2005
;
Bérnils
et al
. 2008
;
Nogueira
et al.
2010
), occurring in open habitats such as grasslands and savannas (Nogueira
et al.
2011). Probably associated with latosoil areas (CN pers. obs.) with caatinga and cerrado vegetation cover inside Caatinga. It has fossorial habits, is nocturnal, and feeds on lizards and mammals (
Marques
et al
. 2005
).
