Distribution. Continental Africa south from Egypt and Sahara, Madagascar ( Guignot 1959-1961 ; Bertrand and Legros 1971 ). In Madagascar, widespread and common. Habitat in study area (Fig. 2O, P ). This species was found in inner Makay, in pools and puddles, mainly in forest. These water bodies were shallow and did not exceed 1 m in depth. The mineral substratum was either clay or sand (or a mixture of both) and there was always a substantial quantity of plant debris.
