Gerridae
is the second richest family of semiaquatic bugs in
Argentina
, with 18 described species in 11 genera.
Andersen (1982)
classified the
Gerridae
in eight subfamilies, of which
Charmatometrinae
,
Cylindrostethinae
,
Gerrinae
,
Halobatinae
,
Rhagadotarsinae
, and
Trepobatinae
are represented in the Argentinean fauna. Two tribes are currently recognized in the
Gerrinae
, following the classification proposed by
Andersen (1995)
:
Gerrini
and
Tachygerrini
, both of which are present in
Argentina
. The
Halobatinae
are classified in two tribes (
Andersen and Weir 2004
), and only the
Halobatini
have been recorded from
Argentina
. Four tribes are currently recognized in the
Trepobatinae (
Polhemus and Polhemus 2002
)
, of which only the
Metrobatini
and the
Trepobatini
are recorded from the country.
