Distribution and ecology. – When ADEMA (1991) published his monograph of Cupaniopsis , this species was thought to be endemic to Grande Terre and was known only from the type collection from Mt. Koniambo, between 800– 900 m . However, one year later, Adema identified a second specimen to this species ( Jaffré 2944 ) in L [L.2296660] from the Mé Adéo road, about 100 km southeast of Koniambo. Notes. – The holotype of this species was initially identified by Guillaumin as C. sebertii Guillaumin , a name considered a synonym of C. fruticosa (≡ Lepidocupania fruticosa ) by ADEMA (1991) . Our examination of the available herbarium material suggests that further taxonomic analysis is needed to clarify species delimitations within this group, which probably represents a species complex.
