measured) Average total length:
7.9mm
, range:
6.4–10.2mm
, average elytral length:
5.6mm
, average elytral width:
2.4mm
, average pronotal length:
1.5mm
, average pronotal width:
1.5mm
, average head width:
1.5mm
.
Head:
Red-brown, cranium sparsely vested with short setae, with dense punctation, interstices smaller than one diameter of punctures; posterior part of clypeus red-brown, lighter than frons, margins darkened, anterior margin concave, posterior margin convex, with few longer setae laterally, surface uneven, without distinct visible punctation; ventral part smooth, except wrinkles behind the eyes; antennae light red-brown, lighter then head capsule, basal part of antennomeres darker, antennomeres gradually decreasing in length from A3 towards A8, A9 to A11 forming a distinct club, antennae reaching base of pronotum when laid back; gular sutures parallel, gular process broad.
Thorax:
Average pronotal length:width ratio 1.0:1; pronotum red-brown, vested with short yellowish setae, pronotal arch narrow, with distinct punctation, interstices smaller than one diameter of punctures, pronotum proper smooth; prosternum light red-brown, smooth; mesosternum red-brown, vestiture sparse; metasternum red-brown, sparsely vested with short yellowish setae, punctation weak; transverse sulcus on anterior part of mesosternum and mesepisternum indistinct; scutellum round, red-brown.
FIGURE 38.
Xenorthrius oblongopunctatus
: (A) Tegmen in ventral view, (B) phallus in ventral view, (C) tip of aedeagus in lateral view, (D) spicular fork, (E) male pygidium, (F) male ventrite 6 and distribution map.
Elytra:
Average length:width ratio 2.4:1; base coloration light red-brown, spotted with darker brown spots, often one larger spot on each elytron in basal half and one large spot on each elytron in apical half, lateral margins often darker, vested with short decumbent setae, elytral striae 1 to 5 often indistinct or obsolete, striae 6 to 8 distinctly and deeply punctured, punctation in these striae longer than wide, striae 9 and 10 smaller but also with distinct punctation, interstices between striae minimal two diameter of punctures, interstices within striae irregular, punctation never rasp-like, carination absent.
Legs:
Light red-brown, distal quarter of femora darker, tarsal pulvilli yellowish-pale; metatibiae more or less straight, tibiae not carinated.
Abdomen:
Ventrites red-brown, interstices larger than one diameter of punctures; lateral margins of male pygidium converging, arms short; male ventrite 6 with distinct U-shaped emargination. Male genitalia (
Fig. 38
): Tegmen short and broad, ventral sinus distinctly deeper than dorsal sinus; phallic plates broad, apically one tooth on left margin in ventral view; spicular fork dividing into two branches after one quarter of length.
Distribution:
India
,
Nepal
,
Myanmar
.
Seasonal occurrence:
Collected from April to September.
Etymology:
The specific epithet,
oblongus
, a Latin adjective meaning elongate, refers to the elongate punctation in striae 6 to 8.
