Saccotheciaceae
Jones et al. (2019)
referred
Aureobasidium pullulans
(collected in the marine environment) to the family
Dothioraceae
, while
Thambugala et al. (2014)
included it in the new family
Aureobasidiaceae
, a family already introduced by
Ciferri (1958)
. However, an earlier name for
Aureobasidiaceae
is
Saccotheciaceae
, established by
Bonorden (1864)
to accommodate
Saccothecium
, and is considered as a distinct family in Dothidelaes.
Saccotheciaceae
can be distinguished from
Dothideaceae
by immersed to erumpent, uniloculate ascostromata and aseptate to multi-septate, hyaline ascospores (
Hongsanan et al. 2020a
). Currently seven genera are accepted in
Saccotheciaceae
with three marine species:
Aureobasidium leucospermi
,
A. pullulans
, and
A. melanogenum
.
