Etymology:
The generic name honors the Kootenai Indians, who historically occupied territories in parts of Montana, Idaho, and British
Columbia
, and who now live on the Flathead and Bonner’s Ferry reservations in Montana and Idaho and on several small reserves in British

.
Diagnosis:
Distinct from any other known arionid genus by the absence of a free epiphallus.
