New Synonymies and Notes on North American Loxandrus LeConte (Coleoptera: Carabidae) Author Bousquet, Yves text The Coleopterists Bulletin 2006 2006-06-30 60 2 145 157 http://dx.doi.org/10.1649/865.1 journal article 10.1649/865.1 1938-4394 17. Loxandrus piciventris (LeConte, 1848:337 ) This taxon was described from an unspecified number of specimens collected in « Georgia ». LeConte’s collection in MCZ contains a single specimen under that name. The specimen, a female labelled «[orange disk]/Type 5698/ L. piciventris Lec. [handwritten]» is herein designated as the lectotype and the label « Lectotype Argutor piciventris LeConte des. Y. Bousquet 2004» has been added . The lectotype (SBL ¼ 5.2 mm ) belongs to the agilis group and seems specifically different from all species treated by Allen (1972). It differs from members of L. piceolus , L. accelerans , L. algidus , and L. unilobus , of which the body sizes approach that of L. piciventris , in having the microsculpture well impressed on the frons, even at middle, the sides of pronotum less rounded, and other minute details. This taxon was considered a variety of L. velox (Dejean) by Schaupp (1880:20). I have not seen any specimen of L. velox .
