Mouth terminal; premaxilla with 3, dentary with 4 teeth, no maxillary teeth. Lateral line with 34-36 pored scales; transverse series above lateral line with 4 or 4½ scale rows and below with 4 scale rows. Dorsal fin with 12, pectoral fin with 16 or 17, pelvic fin with 9 or 10 rays, anal fin with 10 and caudal fin with 19 rays ( Garavello, 1979 ). Ground color pale yellow; four dark-brown longitudinal bands on body, the superior one sometimes fused. Yellowish fins ( Graça, Pavanelli, 2007 ).
