Europe except the far North, East to Russia , Turkey , Kazakhstan , Uzbekistan . Biology. The species breeds primarily in Ulmus (Ulmaceae) , but has been recorded in species of Betulaceae , Fagaceae , Juglandaceae , Oleaceae and Rosaceae ( Michalski 1973 ) . Recorded in Iran from Crataegus sp. ( Rosaceae ), Elaeagnus angustifolia (Elaeagnaceae) , Fraxinus excelsior (Oleaceae) , Juglans regia (Juglandaceae) , Populus sp., Salix sp. ( Salicaceae ), Ulmus pumila (Ulmaceae) ( Modarres Awal 1997 ). The biology, ecology and population dynamics have been studied by Beaver (1966 , 1967a , b ), Schröder (1984), Anderbrant and Schlyter (1987) , Santini and Faccoli (2015) , and others. It is the most important vector of Dutch elm disease in much of Europe ( Webber & Brasier 1984 ; Webber & Gibbs 1989 ; Webber 1990 ; Santini & Faccoli 2015 ).
