Klimenko leg. ( MR ). Paratypes : IRAN : 3♀♀ , 1♂ , Kohkiloyeh-va-Boyerahmad Province , Yasuj area , 10 km SE Sepidar , 5‒6 May 2007 , A. Klimenko leg. ( MR ) . Type depositories : The holotype is housed in the ZSM, paratypes in MR. Etymology : The name refers to the very distinct anterior transverse carina of propodeum. Diagnosis : A member of the Ophion mocsaryi aggregate with the contrasting black ovipositor sheaths in the female. Similar to Ophion crassicornis Brock , but with the face narrower and the lateral ocelli touching the inner margin of the compound eye. Similar also to O. mocsaryi and O. confusus but with the anterior transverse carina of propodeum more pronounced, centrally almost flange-like, and the pleurosternal angles less acute. Description : Fore wing length 16‒18 mm . Body length 17‒19 mm . Antenna with 57‒61 flagellomeres. Temple behind compound eyes, in lateral view about 0.6 × as long as compound eye in female and male. Space between compound eye and lateral ocellus narrow, about 0.1 × the diameter of ocellus in female and male. Occipital carina centrally evenly rounded. Face below antennal sockets shagreened with quite dense punctures, the interstices between punctures about equal to their diameter. Malar space narrow, about 0.1 × as long as mandibular base in female and male ( Fig. 20C ). Mandibular gape right angled, with internal angles. Antennae stout, first flagellomere 3.0 × as long as wide. Central flagellomeres stout, about 1.2‒1.4 × as long as wide. Apical flagellomeres approximately 1.4 × as long as wide. Mesopleuron strongly shagreened, its surface partly rugulose as in O. crassicornis , with punctures quite dense, space between punctures about equal to their diameter. Epicnemial carina, in antero-ventral view, with pleurosternal angles almost right-angled and indistinct, distinctly anterior to sternal angles ( Fig. 20D ). Scutellum without lateral carinae ( Fig. 20B ). Propodeum with the anterior transverse carina very strongly raised, in a couple of specimens almost flange-like. Posterior transverse carina only indicated laterally ( Fig. 20B ). Central longitudinal carinae quite weak. Propodeum weakly shagreened. Sclerotised part of first sternite ending almost level to spiracle. Hind trochantellus shorter than wide in dorsal view. Hind femur quite slender, about 7.0 × as long as wide. Inner spur of hind tibia long, about 0.5 × as long as hind metatarsus. Wing membrane clear. Ramellus distinct reaching about 0.3 × the width of the discosubmarginal cell. Radius weakly sinuous, almost straight before junction with pterostigma. Nervellus broken in the middle by the discoidella. Colouration : Body pale testaceous with paler areas as in the O. obscuratus aggregate, but less distinct, in a couple of specimens almost absent. Inner and outer eye margins widely yellow. Mandibular teeth black. ovipositor sheath dark brown, contrasting in colour with posterior metasomal segments. DNA Barcode : The DNA barcode sequences of two specimens of Ophion transcarinatus sp. nov. are available at the BOLD systems database: sample id. NJP636/669, sequence id. LNU2472-21/2505-21.
