Silvanus muticus was collected in a mature hardwood forest, a mature (110-year-old) red spruce forest, and a mixed forest. Adults were collected by beating dead white birch ( Betula papyrifera Marsh.) branches that had dead, dried leaves, sifting flood debris on a river margin, and at an ultraviolet light.
