Taxonomic remarks.
Kraepelin described this variety based on females from
Syria
that differed from the nominate species in colouration, but refrained from describing a new species because only females were available. The specimen in the
ZMH
comes from the Simon collection, therefore other
syntypes
are likely deposited at
MNHN
and a
lectotype
should be designated from this collection.
Roewer (1933: 378)
created a new genus and elevated this variety to species level, but also described the male for the first time. He examined
2 ♂
and
8 ♀
including the
type
, from
Syria
,
Algeria
, the Greek islands of Kalymnos and Nisyros, and
Turkey
for his description. We do not know where these specimens are located.
