Elytra with irregular, scattered punctures and dimples; striae slightly confused. The complex contains two species groups: C. depressicolle group. It includes Calosoma depressicolle , C. altipeta and C. sylvestre . C. flohri group. It includes Calosoma flohri and C. lesnei . Taxa of the first species group are distributed from eastern Michoacán to western Puebla, whereas members of the flohri group are distributed from Colima and Jalisco to east-central Michoacán. Other species groups in the subgenus Carabomimus from central México are: C . digueti ( Lapouge, 1924 ) , C . politum (includes C . cicatricosum Chaudoir, 1869 , C . diminutum Bates, 1891 , C . morelianum Bates, 1891 , C . politum Chaudoir, 1869 ), C . striatulum (includes C . costipenne Chaudoir, 1869 , C . laevigatum laevigatum Chaudoir, 1869 , C . laevigatum hogei Breuning, 1928 , C . orizabae ( Jeannel, 1940 ) , C . striatipenne Chaudoir, 1869 , C . striatulum striatulum Chevrolat, 1835 , C . striatulum libresense Lassalle, 2009 ). Calosoma bulleri Beheim & Breuning, 1943 remains as species incertae sedis. It was originally placed in the subgenus Blaptosoma Géhin, 1876 but Gidaspow (1959) re-assigned it to the subgenus Carabomimus on the basis of pronotal shape. We have not seen either the type (female) or any other individual in the recently collected material. Therefore, we follow Gidaspow (1959) and leave the species in the subgenus Carabomimus as incertae sedis.
