Miller and Smith (1989)
recorded the occurrence of this common species along the continental coast north to
Cape Verde
in
Senegal
but no material from the
Cape Verde
archipelago was available to these authors. However,
B. soporator
was listed by
Paes da
Franca
and Vasconcelos (1962)
from Baia de Sal Rei,
Ilha
da Boa Vista, and Porto da Praia,
Ilha
de Sa Äo Tiago, and the species has been found during the present surveys in high shore pools; it could be confused with
Gobius ateriformis
sp. nov.
described below.
