A common northern hemisphere species that also occurs in Tasmania,
New Zealand
, and
South Africa
. The species is absent from the subantarctic islands.
Imbribryum subapiculatum
includes significant morphological variation in the southern hemisphere. The
New Zealand
species
Bryum duriusculum
Hook.f. & Wilson
may be the same as
I. subapiculatum
, and has priority, but more work is needed (cf.
Fife
2015
). A transitional bipolar/southern pantemperate species.
