Antenna clavate; antennomeres in following proportions: 6:4:10:7:5:5:5:5:4.5:6.5. Head shiny, unsculptured, except occiput granulate; frontal line complete; occipital carina absent; POL = 1.5; OL = 2; OOL = 7. Palpal formula 4/2. Pronotum shiny, bare, crossed by strong transverse impression, with collar unsculptured and disc slightly granulate. Mesoscutum granulate, without lateral pointed apophyses. Mesoscutellum unsculptured. Metanotum flat, granulate, about coplanar to mesoscutellum; sides of metanotum rounded. Metapectal-propodeal disc shiny, slightly granulate, with track of median longitudinal furrow; propodeal declivity, mesopleuron and metapleuron transversely striate. Meso-metapleural suture obsolete. Protarsomeres in following proportions: 13:3:4:12:18. Enlarged claw ( Figs 172E, F ) with one large subapical tooth and one row of five lamellae. Protarsomere 5 ( Figs 172E, F ) with two rows of 17–18 lamellae; apex with 5–6 lamellae. Tibial spurs 1/0/1. . Fully winged; body length 1.6–1.7 mm . Head dull and granulate; clypeus very prominent, shallowly emarginated, sticking out as bill ( Fig. 174C ); frontal line absent; occipital carina absent; POL = 5; OL = 3; OOL = 4; vertex with two oval shiny areas situated between lateral ocelli and eyes (areas not anteriorly surrounded by high carina). Palpal formula 4/2. Mesoscutum shiny, granulate. Notauli incomplete, reaching approximately 0.75 × length of mesoscutum. Mesoscutellum and metanotum shiny, unsculptured. Metapectal-propodeal disc shiny, unsculptured, with median longitudinal furrow; propodeal declivity unsculptured. Forewing hyaline, without dark transverse bands; distal part of 2r-rs&Rs vein longer than proximal part (10:6). Dorsal process of paramere ( Fig. 173B ) long and with broad apex. Tibial spurs 1/1/2. Olmi reared from Syndelphax capellana (Jacobi) , 2♀♀ ( MOLC ) . Hosts . Delphacidae ( Guglielmino et al . 2013 ) : in South Africa : Syndelphax capellana (Jacobi) . Distribution . Cape Verde Islands, Gambia , South Africa . Remarks . The mesosoma of Gonatopus festivus Olmi can vary in colour, from totally testaceous to partly black or brown. If the colour is partly black or brown, ♀♀ of G. festivus can be confused with G. harteni Olmi. In this case, ♀♀ of these two species are indistinguishable. However, the two species are distinct, because their ♂♂ show strong differences.
