The specimen reported here agrees well with published accounts of Miyakella nepa (Manning 1968; Ahyong 2001; Ahyong et al. 2008). Abdominal spination is as follows: submedian 4–6, intermediate 3–6, lateral 2–6, marginal 1–5. Miyakella nepa occurs throughout Indian waters; along the southwest coast, it is fished in large quantities from NoVember to April (Shanbogue 1986). Distribution . Western Indian Ocean to India , Australia , the South China Sea, Taiwan and New Caledonia ; doubtfully from French Polynesia ; shallow water to at least 85 m (Ahyong & Naiyanetr 2002).
