COSTA RICA : same as holotype , [C] more or less fully shaded as possible ; 1 ♀ , 23.III–13.IV.1986 ; 3♂ , 18.I–8.II.1986 ( UWIM ) Description of holotype , . Body length: 1.4 mm ; fore wing length: 1.1 mm . Color . Mostly honey yellow. Stemmaticum yellow except for inner borders of ocelli dark brown; scape, pedicel and flagellomeres 1–3 whitish yellow, remaining flagellum brown; mandibles light yellow with brown teeth; maxillary and labial palpi whitish yellow. Metanotum light brown. Fore and mid legs mostly light yellow, mid femur and tibia light pale brown, base of tibia lighter, tarsomeres 5 brown; hind legs with coxa, trochanter and trochantellus light yellow, femur and tibia mostly honey yellow to pale brown with base of hind tibia lighter yellow, all tarsi brown. Metasoma with T1+2 white except anterior part brown, remainder terga brown. Wings hyaline with two fuscous bands, veins and stigma brown. Ovipositor sheaths brown. Head . Length of head in dorsal view 0.6× width in dorsal view. Antennae 0.9× longer than body; scape 2.7× longer than wide; subapical flagellomeres expanded apical-ventrally. Eye height 2.67× longer than malar space. Sculpturing mostly shining weakly punctate, including face, gena smooth and polished. Malar suture present. Mesosoma . Mesoscutum and scutellum shining punctate and entirely setose, remaining mesosoma smooth and polished. Notauli absent. Pronotum smooth, with rugose groove. Sternaulus shallow and smooth, distinct anteriorly. Scutellar sulcus with 10 divisions. Metanotum mostly smooth, only weakly costate. Propodeum smooth and polished, with prominent transverse carina, anterior aspect with two pair of lateral carinae; posterior aspect with distinct areola, the lateral carina of areola touching the transverse carina, posteriorly meeting before reaching posterior knob. FIGURES 71–75 . Adelius janzeni Shimbori & Shaw sp. n. 71–73, holotype, ♀: 71, habitus, lateral; 72, head, frontal; 73, head and mesonotum, dorsal; 74–75, paratype, ♀: 74, propodeum and metasoma, dorsal; 75, mesosoma, lateral. Wings . Fore wing vein r absent; vein r&RS 1.0× stigma height; vein R1 0.25× stigma length. Legs . Hind tibial spurs 0.2× hind tibia length. All legs smooth. Mid coxa with distinct transverse sulcus dorsally. Hind tibia enlarged apically, about as wide as hind femur, 4× longer than maximum width Metasoma . All terga smooth, T1+2 weakly sclerotized; basal area of petiole gradually curved into dorsal terga. Variation . Body length 1.3 mm ; the fuscous bands on the fore wing are less defined in the paratype . Male . Body length 1.2–1.4 mm . Similar to but wings have weaker fuscous regions as compared with females. Flagellum with first 0–1 segments light yellow, remaining flagellum light brown, and mid segments not distinctly expanded apical-ventrally as in s. Male with genital capsule enlarged. Diagnosis . Adelius janzeni sp. n. is similar to A. gauldi sp. n. Both species have almost identical color pattern but A. janzeni . has only the internal borders of the ocelli dark brown, as compared with the stemmaticum being mostly dark brown in A. gauldi . The veins 2RS and r&RS are separated (vein r absent) and meeting the stigma before meeting each other in A. janzeni , while in A. gauldi the vein r is present (2RS and 3RS meet). Additionally, the lateral pair of diverging carinae on the propodeum, which form an areola, meet posteriorly, before reaching the posterior knob (forming a Y) and also meet the transverse carina anteriorly in A. janzeni . However, in A. gauldi the carinae meet the knob and remain more or less separated (forming a V) and are more or less separated from the transverse carina anteriorly. Distribution . This species is known only from type locality at Guanacaste Province , Costa Rica . Etymology . This species is named after the distinguished ecologist and entomologist Daniel Janzen.
