Remarks.
This species is known to occur in Honshu, and it is yet another member of the
E.
fustiger
group. It was described based on a single male as small as merely
0.9 mm
, which means that this is one of the smallest
Euconnus
species
in the world. As such,
E. matsunoyamensis
seems unique and possibly easily distinguishable from all remaining Japanese species with a similar,
E.
fustiger
-like aedeagus.
Hoshina &
Nagano
(2005)
placed this species in the subgenus
Euconophron
(currently a junior synonym of
Eupentarius
). However,
E. matsunoyamensis
does not show diagnostic characters of this subgenus, and its placement is here corrected to
Euconnus
(s. str.).
