Type species.
Chrysomela flavipes
Linnaeus, 1767
, by present designation.
Current status.
Synonymized here with
Luperus
Geoffroy, 1762
.
Comments.
The name
Lyperus
was already proposed as unjustified emendation for
Luperus
by
Agassiz (1846)
and thus the spelling “
Lyperus
” can be found time to time in the entomological literature (e.g.
Jakobson 1900
,
Peyerimhoff 1923
). Also
Bedel (1892)
used the spelling “
Lyperus
Müller
” but this case evidently refers to a wrong transliteration of Latin “
Lvpervs
” in
Müller (1764)
.
The genus name
Lyperus
Billberg, 1820
is completely forgotten. Both available names originally included by Billberg are now classified in the genus
Luperus
(see above). As the type species was never designated we choose
Chrysomela flavipes
Linnaeus, 1767
and consequently
Lyperus
Billberg, 1820
is proposed a new synonym of
Luperus
Geoffroy, 1762
.
