Body length 24–35 mm ; length from anterior margin of head to posterior margin of elytra: 14.5–19.5 mm . Dark reddish-brown or brown, elytra and abdomen red, antennae brownish with apical half of antennal segment 11 reddish-brown ( Fig. 106 ). Shiny, very robust and long. Head and pronotum with micropunctation. Head and pronotum and related punctation as in Figs. 107 , 114 ; labrum as in Fig. 115 . Elytra longer and wider than pronotum, slightly dilated posteriad, with very marked humeral angles. Surface with fine but well visible punctation, arranged in numerous, sometimes irregular, series. Abdomen with extremely fine and dense, transverse micro-striation and fine, not sparse punctation, arranged in numerous series on each segment. Male . Tergite 10 and sternite 9 of male genital segment as in Figs. 116, 117 . Aedeagus ( Fig. 118 ) very large, very narrow and long, 3.1–3.3 mm long, with narrow, acute median lobe; parameres symmetrical; inner sac very narrow and long, with few, little scales. Differential diagnosis . Thyreocephalus magnus differs from the other species of the group, T. michaeli , in the very large dark reddish brown body, rounded punctures on head and more elongate and different shaped aedeagus. Distribution. The species is distributed in West and Central Africa ( Fig. 108 ).
